Your First $10,000

If you knew me in person, you’d know that I am absolutely passionate about entrepreneurship. I know a lot of people online claim that they are interested in helping others, but I’m the only person that I know in my area who is trying to make more competition for himself! I’m always encouraging someone to start their own business. If affiliate marketing isn’t for them, I’m encouraging them to take some skill, hobby or experience level and make a business out of it.

I’m so passionate about people owning their own businesses for a few reasons, but one of the most important is opportunity. When you step outside the box and look for unique opportunities around you, you’ll find all kind of rewards you didn’t count on. I’m going to tell you something that the people I know in my personal life have heard time and time again….I see $10,000 out there for all of you….all you have to do is go pick it up!

Your $10,000 is out there…I know it is because it has been out there for me too, time and time again and in the strangest of ways. One of the most serendipitous business experiences I’ve ever had happened a few years ago. It was my first experience with online business and it opened up a whole new world to me.

My grandfather was a “nearly famous” French professor in the 1950s and 1960s. He wrote extensively on the subject, including creating several text books. One of his most popular was a book called “French Reading for Knowledge.” You see, when people learn a language, there’s often a disconnection between the vocabulary that they learn and the way they see the language written in text. This textbook helped students bridge that gap and learn to read French – talk about a niche! My grandfather was a niche marketing expert and didn’t even know it.

This book had been published through Houghton Mifflin and then it was taken out of print. After 50 years, it wasn’t selling as well as it used to so it was dropped. All of a sudden, we started getting requests for permission to copy the text from colleges, like Harvard, who said that their students couldn’t live without it. Since the major publisher didn’t want it anymore, I was free to publish it and set up a website to distribute this book. There was still demand after all of this time and – boom – just like that there was my $10,000 a year waiting to be picked up.

I tell you all this not to encourage you to pick up a copy of the book (unless you really want to learn to read French) but to show you that there is $10,000 out there just waiting for you. If it hadn’t been through that series of events (the publisher dropping the book, Harvard contacting out of the blue), I wouldn’t have the website and wouldn’t have been introduced to the world of Internet marketing. Pay attention to opportunities out there because you never know where your $10,000 might be coming from.
